STRUCTURING YOUR LIFE THE WAY YOU WANT IT

recently came back from speaking to a group of
50 plus women And I was amazed how many were
still fighting the "glass ceiling" syndrome--at
least in their own minds. I can't comment on the
truth of their opinions because I never worked in
Corporate America nor did I want to.

I knew from the very beginning that I would not
make a good employee and always wanted my own
business. Even as a kid, I decided what I wanted
experience in, went to the place that supplied it,
structured an assignment and pay frame, and did
it for a summer or several weeks to get that
experience.

However, what I heard from these women was the
frustration of not having their life the way they
wanted it. And even more amazing to me was the
fact that it never entered their mind to go into
business for themselves.

I must admit that I worked my "butt" off to get
where I am, and luckily had the husband and
family that allowed me to do exactly that because
of their cooperation. I know today I would do
it much differently.

I admire and respect the women who have gone into
business to control their lives, spend time with
their family and structure their work world
around their lifestyle. Fortunately, in this day
and age of virtual assistants, internet programs
and the fact that you don't necessarily need a
total brick and mortar business, that is possible.

So I would definitely look at the re-structuring
of the second part of your life. I would make it
exactly the way you want it-living where you want,
how you want and with whom you want. I would
also acquire the skills necessary to have the
business you want if that's want inspires you.
Most probably, you have more abilities than you
are giving yourself credit for.

I have the opportunity to interview many fabulous
women for my radio show "Women in Business." I
am flabbergasted at the variety of things they do,
how successful they are and the passion with
which they speak. I am envious that I'm not
starting all over again because there are so many
more opportunities today.

I guess that's why I have started so many new
things since turning 60. One of them is becoming
Internet savvy. I never got on a computer until
then, and now there isn't a day that goes by that
I'm not on it for my businesses. Is it my
favorite thing-no! Is it one key to success-yes!

So I say to all your Spunky Old Broads out there.-
don't ever think it's too late. As long as you'
re breathing, you can do it. And the older you
get, the more you know.
