Set the Virtual Memory in windows XP

by Incredible Articles - Last Modified: 11/14/2007

he data that the computer uses it frequently is kept in Main Memory, but in most cases it is too small to keep all data used by the computer. The data used rarely is kept in a place on hard drive called "Virtual Memory".

Probably you got many times the message: "Virtual Memory minimum too low", to fix this, go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced. Under the "Performance" section, press "Settings", then chose Advanced tab again. The last category is Virtual Memory, press Change to change the values.

You will get a list with all your partitions. For each you need to specify how much space virtual memory can use. I advice you to have virtual memory on a single partition. Doing this will reduce time spending to get data from virtual memory.

For the partition where you want to make virtual memory, chose "Custom size". You must specify initial and maximum memory. For the initial size, put a value equal to your RAM Memory, and for maximum, twice. This is not a rule, you can choose what amount you want as long as your computer works. If you get the message: "Virtual Memory Minimum too low", raise the initial size value.
