Full Color Poster Printing: Mixing and Matching Colors for Your Posters

by Incredible Articles - Last Modified: 12/04/2007

here's a difference between beautiful and interesting. When choosing to create your advertising materials, try to determine which one you would want your prints to be. Begging the question, full color poster printing or one-color printing?

In most cases, people strive for both. On the other hand, some think being pretty is interesting, or being interesting is pretty. While it may be a completely different story, asking yourself these question would allow you to better focus on your concept and your design.

Full colored posters, one of the most popular medium there is, can be beautiful but sometimes tend to be boring. There are colorful prints that are uninteresting while there are black and white illustrations that are more eye-catching or thought provoking.

The Full or Four-Color Printing Process

Color printing is complicated. What appears as one color to our eye can actually be a combination of the four CMYK colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black). These colors are layered together creating a multitude number of shades.

CMYK colors, however wide its range may be, are still incapable of printing all colors. They can match your original file's colors and match it to the print output, still, it can be quite limiting as it cannot accurately copy the shade of green used by Starbucks.

Poster Making Tips: Working with Colors and Design How can one, indeed, gain insight into poster making and full color printing?

Well, here are some ideas that you can certainly use to make posters that are captivating, interesting and beautiful all at the same time. Play with these ideas and be more daring in experimenting with your posters.

Become Single * A monochromatic color scheme can generate a different look and feel. It can generate the impact that your color posters need, especially if you are using the color's whole family hue.

* Simple, solid monochromatic colored posters with illustrations can work wonders for your posters. In their natural environment, posters compete with a myriad of colors, tones, and shadows. Strong and bright monochromatic scheme can stand out in comparison.

Threesome Color Scheme * If you are thinking that you are getting the most out of a full color poster printing service by painting your posters in all shades of the rainbow, you may want to rethink that concept.

* Instead of painting your posters in dizzying combinations of colors, try to create a design with three dominant colors. Use flags as inspiration and you get the idea. Most flags and even posters and other print advertisement use at most three dominant colors to get better impact. Three dominant colors make your design look less busy and less strenuous to look at and concentrate on.

Colored Paper Stock * Using a colored paper stock is quite risky if you do not have any idea on how it can affect the colors of your print. Certain colors will go flat too when using special papers with no coating. Remember that paper is a media that needs to attract light too to bring out the vibrancy of the prints.

* If your printing project truly colors for a colored paper, it is always best to ask your printer about your options and the pros and cons of the job.

Full color poster printing is a very accommodating media. There are so many ways for you to create interesting designs that will draw your client's attention and create the buzz for your business.
